A little Accent

So, do you ever walk into a room and feel like something is missing? That was how I felt every time I walked into my son’s room, the walls just felt so bare. Don’t get me wrong it was not that the walls were bare, I did have art work on them, it was just like the room felt it had no character. I decided this room needed an accent wall, but not like a shiplap wall or the wall just painted a different color. I wanted something a little different, something that felt a little more masculine. I decided on a rugby type design accent wall. I painted the wall a blue color first and then bought 1×12 boards (common pine boards) and stained them a color that matched most of the furniture wood tones in the room.

The boards did not span the entire length of the wall, so I decided to alternate each board creating a sort of zig zag pattern. At first I was unsure of this pattern when I only had two boards up but after some thought decided to keep going with it. I used screws to attach the boards to the studs to make sure they were secured to the wall. I decided to use screw covers to give a decorative element to the boards and wall. It is funny how such a small thing makes such a huge impact.

This was a crazy fast project that added so much impact to the room. The longest part of this project was the time it took to stain the boards. It is an easy weekend project that could transform any room. The best part is my son loves it!

With Love,
